This is suitable for a new build or a replacement for any ddr 4 system, whether it is an upgrade or not depends on the size and speed of your existing ram. However it is quite simple to add to an existing system as replacement or addition depending on the number of slots you have available in your system. As an addition to existing ram ..it would always be an upgrade in capacity if not in speed but possibly both..depending on speed of existing ram.. Hope this helps : )

I put this in A Dell i7-8700 G5 that does not support overclocking. This ram only supports 2666MHz if your bios lets you do XMP. If your bios only supports JEDEC than this Ram only will run at 2133MHz. If you are trying to run at 2666 MHz than you need ram that supports PC4-2666T, PC4-2666U, PC4-2666V, or PC-2666W.

I would first suggest you look up your motherboard's website and there should be a tab there that will list a very long list of RAM manufacturer's and tell you whether or not it's supported. Additionally, if you're replacing old RAM are you replacing all 4 sticks? Or just two? Because if you've got already got 4 in your system, but only replacing two, there could be an issue there. My understanding is that you want the RAM to match with whatever other RAM you have in the other slots. Lastly, actually installing RAM is actually very easy, push back two tabs, slot in RAM, push down on RAM and listen for click. Just need to be careful the gap lines up.
