You mean M1 as in MacBook? First, it's a good idea to see if it can be upgraded, especially since some RAM memory is also soldered into place in laptops - not (easily) removable. Next, the RAM memory called UDIMMs will typically fit in a larger model, such as a desktop. SO-DIMMs are often associated with belonging to laptops (size and pin number is what sets these apart). The other item you want to check is if it is category DDR4, DDR5, etc. Even with a match, it may still not work - with some digging and research, you should be able to find a list of compatible RAM, or if someone has at least tried the upgrade.
