Its the same size as the Amazon Fire HD 8 (8 1/4 tall x 5 inches wide). Fits perfectly.

This product has the following dimensions: 0.59 height x 5.04 width x 8.42 depth in inches.

There’s a plastic insert within the case that perfectly hugs the tablet. So to answer your question the protective case is identical to the tablet and when it’s closed I’d say the same. I mean if the edges are a bit longer it's very difficult to notice.
