No purchase necessary, but the are a lot of online tools and sites to supplement the 3d printing community

You can find the download for the software to print(slicer) from the Creality website and a download to design on the internet. Tinkercad is the easiest.

Access to creality workshop is free and easy.  Depending on how custom you want to get,  you may need programs like openscad. Plenty of videos to walk you through everything.
