I just purchased this model of coffee maker from a different retail store, and I don't have any problem sliding the glass carafe back onto the hot plate. Mine does not catch on the bottom of the filter basket.

Our carafe also hangs up too, but I believe it is because it is a tighter fit than our previous ten cup pot.
