This unit operates on 120 volts AC, as indicated in the specs. It has a maximum power draw of 1800 watts, if both burners are ON full blast. If you sat in the front row in school and remember your electrical formula, volts multiplied by amps gives you watts. Here, 120 volts times 15amps equals 1800watts. You'd be smart to operate this on a 20amp circuit, which is common in kitchens since the 1960's. Rule of thumb says that circuits like to operate at 80% load for continuous loads. You'd blow a fuse or trip a breaker if you used a 15amp circuit, and someone ran the toaster or hair dryer on the same circuit at the same time. For certain, do not use with a lamp extension cord!

So both burners do not go up to half of 1800W as you might assume. This is pretty common on cooktops so I went to the Cuisinart site and looked at the manual to double check.
