No the subs in the speakers are all you need trust me
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends on many factors such as room size, use intentions and sound preferences. For home theater you cannot have too many subs. Tons of really informative videos on YouTube about how many and what types of subs you need for every application. I have 4 of the 2009 Def Tech BP7004 which is the smaller cousin to this speaker and I added 3 more separate subs for my 3600 cubic ft room to get rid of nulls in the bass. I have a Supercube and a ProSub 1000 from the same time period and both stopped working after roughly 5 years so I upgraded to SVS PB4000's and haven't looked back. No comparison at all the SVS subs (even the PB1000) blow the Def Tech stuff away. 2 of my BP7004's died after 6 and 7 years and 1 is starting to make a humming sound and 1 is still functioning. I called Def Tech to get replacement amps for everything but they stopped selling them so I wont buy anymore Def Tech stuff which is too bad because they used to be a great company to deal with before Sound United bought them and now Sound United has been bought by a medical supply company so I'm sure the customer service will get even worse. GoldenEar also makes speakers with built in subs and was started by Sandy Gross who started Def Tech but I have not researched them yet. Good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had both 9040's and 9080's. I think with the 9040's yes you could use more bass. The 9080's had enough for my taste in my room. That's the thing, all depends on what you like and how your speakers sound in your environment. That said, I was not super impressed with the supercube. I do love the DT speakers. But did not getin my opinion big bass by adding the supercube so I took it back.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have the 9020s and I paired them initially with a 8in polk audio sub. Didn't sound good so I bought a Martin Logan 8in and what a difference. Movies sound great but for music something is missing. I'm trading them in for a pair of Martin logan 40i's.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It’s really not needed with these tower speakers, you get a full range with plenty of bass without a sub. I am using these in a smaller room though.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes! I paired with the Supercube. There are lower frequencies the Supercube picks up. I would go with Bower and Wilkins towers and The Supercube for a sub. The super Cube is amazing. The subs in these towers is a waste. I’m taking my definitive towers back and exchanging for Bower and Wilkins.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.YES. The Supercube by Definitive picks up lower frequencies. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the subs in these towers. Try watching movie scenes with and without the Supercube. You will notice the lower frequencies. These towers lack lower frequencies in the subs. I’m taking mine back and going with Bower and Wilkins. I bought Definitive because of the tower subs. They really need to focus on towers with mids and lows. A poor marketing platform to gobble up consumers thinking they are saving money without having to buy subs.
