Yes, you would need one to connect the speakers. These are not powered speakers (outside of the sub) but it still needs to get a signal. Honestly its so much easier now with the HDMI cable's, it makes setting up a surround sound so much simpler than back in the late 90's early 2000's.

Yes you do. Make sure it can produce enough wattage for them. Great sound from small speakers. Better than sono speakers. I have the Yamaha Adventage 7.2.
