It does not. It does need a port that can supply at least 1.6 amps, so I found out the hard way it doesn't work on tablets. But if your device uses a normal charger rather than a phone charger, it should be fine.

Not quite sure I understand the question but I will try to help. Most computers, like mine, have at least two USB ports, if you need extra USB ports you can always resort to multi-port extensions. This DVDRW drive only requires one USB port so you should be ok if you have only one left, plus you may opt not to have it connected all the time. Hope this helped a bit. Cheers!
