Can I use this to watch dvd's on my hp envy laptop? null

Yes you can use it to play DVDs

I have used it to play DVD on my Dell Lenovo, I am sure it will work on your HP.

My CD reader/writer on my 7 year old Dell quit working and I have used it to read then write programs to the hard drive like Quicken and Turbotax etc.,.and they are retrievable form the hard drive. I can not answer if a reader would play movies.
