“Is an external power source needed for this device when used on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4? I have heard the USB port on the Surface Pro 4 does not have enough "juice" to power the unit. However, that may be with the PC disconnected from its power source”

• This device cannot accept external power sources. It is powered through the usb connection itself. My experience is that if the device uses "phone charger" ports for power, it is not capable of powering this drive. It will power up until it tries to read the disc and then blank out, repeating infinitely.

• This optical drive does not have an option for adding an external power source. It should work on a Surface, but YMMV.

• idk about MSSurface Pro 4 but it doesnt have an external power source its just a usb cable which plugs into the unit and then into a USB port
