Yes, this monitor is compatible with Dell XPS 8940. The monitor comes with an HDMI cable to connect to the system.

Mine came with a HDMI cable (that the internet says your card can use), but I use a DP (display port) cable that i bought separately for arround $10. So short answer: yes it looks to me like it is compatible with your system. I ordered online and picked up in store near me. Before bestbuy I tried to order one from a popular online place starting with Ama because it was arround $20 less, but it did not ship on time and was a big hassle, now with electronics I order from Bestbuy, plus if i have an issue with the product I can visit the closest physical store for help or to return items.
