• Hello, that is correct. The Denon AVR-X3700H is equipped with 9 channels of amplification and 11 channels of processing with the addition of an external amplifier.

• I would say yes it can. There are more than 9 speaker hookups in the back. Of course your watts per channel will be decrease, but it will still play loud enough I'm sure. I was using mine without an external amp, but have since bought one. My setup was 9 speakers and 2 subwoofers and it had more than enough volume before I added the external amp.
