“I have a D5100. I have 2 EN-EL14 batteries and Nikon charger. Both batteries blink orange and then start flickering. How do I know if the batteries are bad or is it the charger?”

I had this same problem. As soon as I would put battery to charge the orange light would blink super fast. I thought it was the battery, but after purchasing a battery to only find out that the charger was the problem. I found it hard to believe because I had only had my camera for 7 months.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If it's a re-fuel branded battery, mine failed too. Same thing. My charger would go bonkers when ever I tried to recharge these.Would not charge properly or hold a charge.
