These are connected to a receiver with speaker wire.

No power, just need speaker wire from receiver to speaker

No, they do not require any type of batteries. Just bought a set of these 2 weeks ago for my pool/patio and they work quite nicely. I think you will like your purchase should you choose to buy them.
