Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Dyson air purifiers would not project anything into the air that would repel bugs or insects. We wouldn't typically recommend using an air purifier outdoors; if using on a covered porch or patio, you may benefit from the airflow that the machine puts out, but it wouldn't perform well in terms of purifying your outdoor air.
