The WiFi is how the unit gets local air quality data and weather data. The unit tracks your indoor air quality and the temperature and humidity. You can see how the outside air quality and weather affects your indoor air. Also when you set it up using the app it automatically registers your unit. You can use the app to control the unit. The app has more controls than the remote. It also trends your air quality data.

The reason for the WIFI is to connect with the fan so you don't have to use the remote; therefore, you can make changes to the fan's settings from wherever you are in your house. Also, when you access the app, it provides information on the air quality in your home and also gives measurements of the air outside (i.e. temp, what's high in the atmosphere, etc.) You'll enjoy this fan/air purifier immensely. I highly recommend.

The wifi feature basically allows you to interact with your Dyson even when your away from wherever you may have one. As your Dyson would be synced up with your wifi, just as how any other device would be, you'll then have access to it's status and operations. You'll need to download the application to your mobile device and once application is in use, you're capable of controlling your Dyson as well as reading the status of your Dyson, as far as what condition the air quality is in. One of the best qualities in the product is the auto button. Ever since I've selected the option, it pretty much does all the work by itself. Meaning I never have to touch that dyson unless I plan on moving it somewhere else in the room. My advice would be to go ahead and grab one because I can safely say you will not regret it. Buyer's remorse flies out the window after you turn it on.
