No, they can not. They do have a different model that can accommodate a subwoofer but this is not it. You can see from the picture of the back of the speakers there is no place to plug in an additional sub.

Please try again later.I have the 1280BT and just purchased the Edifier T5 sub which works flawlessly, adding depth and clarity, punch and floor shaking lows out of its 8" woofer and modest 70w. With cheap adapters any device with 3.5mm headphone jack like on a phone or PC, and any device with RCA out can provide an analog audio source. With one extra cable I connect my TV and switch to my record player just by swapping RCA cables but I plan to get an audio video switch for easier control between sources.
