Yes, it is a cup, so no phone or an account is required. 

Of course if you want to use it as it is designed, so you can control the temperature of the liquid inside, then a phone or tablet is required.

Hi Karen,

Ember Mugs can be used with or without a phone. However, the app allows you to customize your temperature for specific drinks (coffee, tea, latte, etc.) and even keep track of caffeine intake!

Yes you can. However, the App offers sone unique features (like temperature adjustment) so not sure why you would want to.
