“Epson's specs say projection size 61-120". Can a smaller size (50-55") work okay? Can you turn sound low and still hear dialogue well? (or does bass muffle it) Is there frame interpolation, and can you turn off to avoid soap opera effect? Thanks!”

Going to that small of a screen will cause issues with focus, and the image will come out somewhat blurry. For that size a flat panel would be a better option. I didn't notice any soap opera effect right out of the box. I can't stand it, so you should be OK there. The sound is actually pretty crisp at low levels. You can adjust the bass level, and bump up the dialog levels independently. I had no issue with hearing dialog.
