Yes, this unit features a charcoal filter and a 300CFM exhaust fan. So, depending on how the venting is set up in your house it can either exhuast smoke out of the kitchen, or recirculate it though the filter and out the vent at the top of the unit. Thank You, Frigidaire

It.can be installed to vent vertically to a duct or horizontally using the provided template for hole location, or it comes configured to recycle airflow back into the room
