Hi GeoV, thank you for reaching out. Yes, it is normal for the door on a new FDPC4221AS dishwasher to feel a little difficult to open at first. Also, if the rear leveling screw is lower than the front, it can affect the door's alignment and operation. We recommend leveling the unit evenly from front to back and side to side. — Reed
