I don't think so. Everything I found in the manual said only if you run it in a certain mode (can't remember which mode, but not for cooling). We've been using it for a month now (give or take) and has no indication of needing to be drained. I have another one that stops cooling if you need to drain it and I have to do it every couple of days.

You must connect one end of the garden hose (sold separately. minimum hose length: 10 6/10" and hose diameter: 6") to the drain outlet then lead the other end into a drain that is lower than the unit.
