Hi Chris - it is recommended that the refrigerator/freezer sits on a hard surface. Carpeting if wet will get moldy, it is more difficult to level the appliance & a hard surface allows better ventilation. Though there are no air vents that exhaust out the underside of the unit, when the cooling fan is operating, carpet fibers could get sucked up by the fan and deposited on the motor and coils. The bottom does get warm.
