Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It says 23 inch width minimum but I made a slight modification and it then fit my 21 inch width window. They are specifically referring to the spacers that attach to each side of the unit and expand. The unit itself is actually 16.5 inches wide, and so if you get creative, leaving out the spacers (those plastic things that fan out on each side) you can fit it in as little as 17 inch wide window opening. Be aware though that if you do that you may void the warranty, and the trick will be to anchor it in place well, because the spacers are designed to help hold it in place. You will need some ingenuity but it is possible. As far as that guy asking about whether you can place it sideways, the readout (temp and settings) will be sideways, and I am not aware of anything in the instructions saying you cannot, but I would consult an expert on that one, at a store. The height of of unit is about 13 inches.
