Hi, Merryland. There should be a 3” minimum clearance. Please try again later.3" = top width of the trim kit -- The trim kit I already had for my old non-working microwave was the perfect size and finish, and the dimensions are identical to the trim kit recommended for this microwave. I have cabinet doors above the microwave and the bottom of the doors is about 1.5" above the top of the trim kit.
