Hi, Dede! The water filter is on a spring and should pop out with a firm push on the end. You may need to use some pressure depending on how long it has been in place. The air filter is located behind the housing at the top of the air tower in the back wall of the refrigerator. It should be changed every six months alongside the water filter. ~Ashton
