My current cooktop has a height of 2 7/8" with a drawer under it. There is 3" from top of the counter to the top of the drawer. This model has a height of 2 7/16" which is a bit smaller. I would like to ask why 7.5" height is required below the counter? null

Not an expert but we just installed this recently. The nipple for the gas supply coupled with the supply line seems like that room is needed as not to stress either the fitting or the line.
