• Yes you should be able to use this for that. I actually use it to save all my data too. Though I do not have a MAC it is supposed to be compatiable for both MAC and Windows computers.

• I don't see why you couldn't use this drive to backup your Mac Book Pro. However I only use my on an iMac desktop, so can't be certain.
