“Do I have to coat the unit with oil or the food with oil to air fry? Does the grease get on the insides and through the working holes inside? I am having trouble wrapping my mind around this two-function microwave oven.”

Hi there, Thanks for reaching out, you've asked some great questions! Good news, you will not need to use oil when using air fry. Air Fry cooking uses heating elements to rapidly raise the temperature of the air inside the oven. A fan circulates the heated air throughout the oven, over and around food, producing foods with a crispier exterior than traditional oven cooking. The rack and crisper pan are required for good air circulation and even browning, and the stainless steel Crisper Pan included for use with Air Fry does have a non-stick coating.
