Hi - Thanks for reaching out about this wonderful microwave, this is a really good question. During air fry cooking, heating elements are used to rapidly raise the temperature of the air inside the oven. A fan circulates the heated air throughout the oven, over and around food, producing foods with a crispier exterior than traditional oven cooking. When using the convection feature, hot air circulates though the microwave with a fan for baking performance. Thanks for asking and for considering GE Appliances! -Mikayla@GEA
