“Can the internal light be replaced if it stops working? The owners manual indicates that the light can be turned on to view the items cooking. Is this correct or is it always on when cooking? Thanks!”

Hello there - Great question! The interior light cannot be replaced. When the microwave is cooking the internal light will be on so you can see the food inside. All microwaves have a window in the door that has a mesh screen inside of it. This screen helps keep the microwaves inside the cavity, and is a necessary part of the microwave.
