Personally I would return it and give it another shot. If this was the only issue you had. Because mine sits inside a cabinet that is a big concern and my exterior did not get real hot. Just very warm and no problem to touch or lay your hands on it. I always test that out. Not only because of the cabinet but I also have a toddler in my home. My review wasn't good for other reasons.
