  • QuestionWe just got this microwave delivered and heated a cup of water for 1.5 minutes. The top of the microwave got excessively hot, and remained that way for a good 10 minutes. Is this a defect?

    Asked by Elkay.

    • Answer Hi Elkay - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE! We can certainly understand your concern regarding the hot case and glad to help. Cooking foods in a microwave oven for an extended period of time can cause a heat transfer not only to the internal oven walls and floor, but to the external cabinet as well. Heat is generated outward from the food being cooked. Additionally, the oven's interior lamp and the magnetron tube will contribute to external heat transfer. This condition is considered normal. It should be noted that the internal and external temperatures after extended cooking will vary, naturally, depending on the preparation and the length of the cooking time. Countertop Microwaves need adequate air clearance on each side, the rear and the top to function properly. This allows good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents. Allow 3 inches of clearance on both sides and 3 inch of clearance at the back. These microwaves are intended for countertop use only. We do not recommend installing them in tight spaces, like a cabinet. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com for all your appliance needs. Sue

    Asked by Sheila.

    • Answer Hi Sheila - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE! However, we have not tested this type of product and therefore, cannot recommend it's use in our microwave based on Warning statement on page 3 of manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40735.pdf - TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE IN THE CAVITY: Do not store any materials in the oven when not in use. • QuestionWhat is the color of the interior ? Is this made in USA ?

    Asked by Jett.

    • Answer Hi Jett - Thanks for viewing GE Model JES1145SHSS! This model has a white epoxy interior and manufactured globally (not in the USA). GE Appliances products are designed by GE Appliances engineers in the United States. Many are manufactured in the U.S. and others are made globally to our specifications. The country of origin is shown on the Model/Serial rating plate as well as the packaging. Manufacturing facilities (plant sites, where appliances are made) can and do change from time to time because GE Appliances continues to seek the most efficient manufacturing processes available. We make products all over the world for a Global marketplace. Therefore, your best source for manufacturing location is the packaging/product itself. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
