A:AnswerHello, that's a great question! We apologize for any confusion. The model is the same, but the extra 5 is an engineering code. For example, if you needed an extra part, searching for the model number that is on your microwave would allow you to see the part breakdown for your specific model. We hope this helps!- Kianna@GEA
A:AnswerHello. This model can have it vented out the top when you need to externally vent outside your home. This is explained how to do this in the installs that comes with this microwave. Be careful when you install it. Geoff@GEA
A:AnswerHello- Thanks so much for your question. I will be happy to help! All current OTR (over-the-range microwaves), including convection, Advantium ovens, vent hoods, and telescopic downdraft vents can be installed over gas ranges and cooktops* with combined surface burner BTU rating of approximately 65,000 BTUs or less. As long as the 66" minimum clearance from the floor to the top of the microwave is followed there will be no performance or warranty issue. We hope this is helpful! If you have any additional questions, please let us know. We are always happy to help! Joyce@GEA
A:AnswerHello,
Thanks for reaching out to us! We appreciate your loyalty to GE Appliances and we're glad we can help you. We do not recommend reusing the same mounting plate for different models. This microwave oven will come equipped with it's own mounting plate. We've placed the installation instructions in the link below for more details.

A:AnswerHello,
Great question! We appreciate your interest and we'd be more than happy to help. If you are referring to the charcoal filter in this microwave, it cannot be cleaned and has to be replaced. Instructions on how to do so can be found in the link below on page 19:

A:AnswerHi Bob - We are sorry to hear your GE Microwave Model # JVM1790SK needs replacing and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Model JNM3163rjss is a great choice. All GE 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions needed to make installation a simple process. A:AnswerI recently bought a stainless steel 1.6 cu ft GE microwave JVM3160RFSS on bestbuy.com (on sale, very good price) and am satisfied with it. It replaced a microwave of the same model that I bought several years ago. Its specs from the Web site are:
Product Height 16 1/2 inches
Product Width 29 7/8 inches
Product Depth 15 1/4 inches
I googled your model number (it's 1.7 cu ft, slightly larger internally than mine) and found the following approximate specs, virtually identical to yours
Approx. Product Dimensions (WxHxD) (in.)
29 7/8 in x 16 13/32 in x 15 1/4 in
Hope that answers your question. Google can find almost anything.

A:AnswerOn low speed the vent fan has a fairly low noise level. It is much noisier when used on the high speed. I have found the low speed to be sufficient for removing steam, etc. when using the stove top.
