I just purchased this microwave and it is extremely loud when operating. I've never heard a microwave make such a noise. Is this normal for this model or should i contact the mfg.? null

Remove the exhaust hood, make sure the exhaust system isnt restricted. While mine was running it was producing almost 80dB! removing my exhaust reduced it almost to a whisper (Something in the exhaust hood was pinning the flap if using external venting).

When the exhaust is restricted it runs very loud, if the exhaust is restricted the fan speed increases. Wish their manuals was mor.e descriptive than saying noise while running is normal

Mine is definitely not noise free but it isn't loud like you are describing either. It might be a good idea to check with GE/mfg and also read reviews to see if other people have complained.

Ours has been very quiet...quieter than the one we replaced (which was not particularly noisy). I would contact the manufacturer about your situation.

Dimming oven light and change in the blower sound at power levels other than high would also be normal. The sound from the vent fan should be similar to that of a standard range vent hood. Popping sounds are usually caused by the food item being cooked in the microwave. Food items with a higher fat content will pop and sizzle as they cook. Covering the container will reduce this. Noises can also be heard when cooking foods with tight membranes such as potatoes. Pierce the skin of potatoes before cooking. Using metal or metal-trimmed cooking utensils in the microwave causes arcing in a microwave. If the noise is electrical or mechanical in sound, we recommend contacting service.
