A:AnswerRemove the exhaust hood, make sure the exhaust system isnt restricted. While mine was running it was producing almost 80dB! removing my exhaust reduced it almost to a whisper (Something in the exhaust hood was pinning the flap if using external venting).
When the exhaust is restricted it runs very loud, fan speed increases. Wish GE manuals/responses was more descriptive than saying noise while running is normal, they dont account for this simple issue.

A:AnswerHi there - Thanks for this question! Our microwaves continue to be manufactured with as quiet an operation as possible. You will hear a humming sounds during operation or change in the blower sound at power levels other than high. It also features a two-speed, 300-CFM venting system to removes smoke, steam and odor from the kitchen. The sound can be compared to a standard range vent hood. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy! - NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. A:AnswerHi 2858! We appreciate your question. We found that this is supposed to happen. Over-the-range microwaves have an automatic fan feature to help protect the electronic components, and also helps the cooking area get rid of excess heat. The built-in thermostat automatically turns the vent fan on if the unit is too hot, and will not turn off until the microwave is cool again. You will not be able to turn the vent fan off manually during this time. We hope this helps! Emily@GEA
