“ge model#JV316DJWW does the vent motor suppose to run whenever you use the microwave? pushing the vent button only gives you speed of motor does not turn it off. is this the way it is suppose to work? Or do I have a faulty unit?”

This microwave has an Automatic Vent fan feature. It turns on when it senses that the heat is too high. If you'd like, you can view more on this on page 16 of the Use and Care manual.
