It is designed, tested and approved by UL for use over a range. It is not designed, tested or approved by UL for any other use. We suggest to view our countertop model PEM31SFSS for this application. • yes, however the fan ports and lights would be covered, do not need a box, it will mount to the back wall and to the underside of the cabinets
