How high above the cooktop can it be installed? More than 18”? Also is a venting trim kit needed? I would rather not have one if not necessary null

Mine is installed 23" above the stove top. The microwave works without a venting trim kit, however it has a fan/ventilation system built into it to help remove steam and cooking vapors from the stove top in the same way a hood/fan ventilation system does. Hope that helps. I would check about heat from the microwave itself, if it's a tight fit into the cabinets surrounding it.

First do not buy this microwave at all! Why? Because the lettering on the keypad can not be seen! Lettering is behind the plastic cover. Too dark. You must have
direct light in order to find the tabs. And! if you want to use it at night, you can not use it without a flashlight handy. Micro wave works otherwise. Std height .
Venting kit is a lot of trouble for installation. Do not buy this microwave. I wish i could return it simply.

Hi Jennifer- Over- the- range microwaves must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. Yes 18” or higher is what I was told. I did not need a venting trim kit but I was replacing a unit that was already there.
