Hi Wendy - The over-the-range microwave ovens are designed for adaptation for the following three types of ventilation: 1. Outside Exhaust (Vertical – Delivered from factory in vertical position); 2. Outside Exhaust (Horizontal); 3. Recirculating (Non-vented ductless). The instructions for recirculating are provided on page 13 of the Installation guide at the following link: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40675-4.PDF - Also, the charcoal filter necessary for recirculating is included (JX81L).
