A:AnswerHi, I had a GE Spacemaker XL which they do not make anymore. I got the dimensions and went to various stores to see which would work. I found someone that was very knowledgeable about microwaves and he explained that most microwaves are standard unless someone needs/wants a bigger one due to their space. My suggestion is to measure and then pay the extra for the them to install. I like my new microwave because it matches my stove. Hope this helped.
A:AnswerHi TawnaB - Thanks for viewing GE Model JVM3160RFSS! The Vent Fan pad allows you to turn on/off the exhaust fan as needed when using the range below to remove smoke, steam and odors. Also, over-the-range microwaves have an automatic fan feature to help protect the electronic components, and also helps the cooking area get rid of excess heat. The built-in thermostat automatically turns the vent fan on if the unit is too hot, and will not turn off until the microwave is cool again. You will not be able to turn the vent fan off manually during this time. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Sue
A:AnswerHi doc - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE JVM3160EFES. We are sorry to hear of this unfortunate experience and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. This must be frustrating. If the microwave trips the house fuse or breaker, be certain the microwave is on its own dedicated circuit. If the breaker continues to trip off, unplug the microwave and contact service. A qualified GE service technician is required for an accurate diagnosis. To schedule
service online, visit us at GEAppliances.com or call 1.800.GE.CARES (800.432.2737). Please have your serial number and your model number available when calling for service. We're glad to have you in the family. Keep in touch! Sue
A:AnswerHello Mikro - Thank you for your interest in replacing your existing over-the-range microwave. We appreciate your loyalty and we are happy to help. Although we no longer make your model, we do have a variety of great new models available. We normally do not suggest an exact replacement because all of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66” min mounting height). Any of our new models will work in your current space. Please take a a look at our currently available replacement model is stainless steel: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-compare/&sku=JVM6172SKSS&sku=JVM3160RFSS&sku=JVM6175SKSS&sku=JVM7195SKSS

A:AnswerI installed by my self over a stove and under counter. It wasn't difficult, but used a block to hold it up to the bottom of the cabiinet while fastening

A:AnswerHello, and thank you for inquiring about our Over-the-Range microwaves. All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. - When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. Should you have additional questions, or need further assistance in choosing a 30" unit, please come back to us and let us know. -Kacie@GEA
A:AnswerYou can position the vent fan to exhaust through the back, top, or front. I believe that as long as the fan is positioned in the correct venting position - base on your ductwork - that it should be fine. The owners manual and the manufacturer should be able to answer this for sure as I am not a certified installer. I positioned my fan to vent out the front - for recirculation.
A:AnswerI'm not an expert, but I think setting it on a counter will block the vents causing a potential overheating issue. Maybe place some short 2x4's under either side, just so air will flow underneath. Its not ideal but for a short period during a remodel it should be ok.

This microwave will reset when it loses power. However, it does not require that the month, day and year be reset, just the clock will need to be reset.
