Hi doc- Yes, it can be converted to vent internally (recirculating). The over-the-range microwave ovens are designed for adaptation to the following three types of ventilation: *Outside exhaust (horizontal), *Outside exhaust (vertical), *Recirculating (non-vented). According to the installation instructions that accompanied mine you can do so. They start on page EN-13. Mine is a replacement, and I already had a top-vent in place.
