Whirlpool gold 1.6 CF Microwave crapped out. Trying to replace it with similar. Does an over the range really need venting if put in cubby hole above the oven. Of course trim kit a problem. Looking at GE 1.6 and others. Counter top hard to find. null

No, you don't need to vent the microwave. There is a recirculating option during the install.

Hi - Over- the- range microwaves are not designed or approved for installation in a cabinet above an oven or used on a counter or shelf. They cannot be installed in a closed cabinet or cut-out space where the bottom is covered. The underside is not flat and would not provide a stable surface.
