GE JVM7195 over range microwave instructions for ductwork. The template to install the JVM7195 over the range microwave (top ducted to outside) calls for a hole cutout that is 6 1/4 inches x 13 inches to accommodate the ductwork. Standard (rectangular) ductwork is always 3 1/4 x 10 inches. Hate to remove that much of the cabinet floor unless it's necessary. Anyone have an idea why they advise a cut-out that large? I called GE and they said they aren't equipped to answer install questions.

First, the size probably meets fire code in some jurisdiction. You need to meet local code so you can adjust to your locality.
In addition, the space allows you to maneuver the microwave if your template following us less than optimal.

I suspect the purpose is to give you some room to slip the microwave into position. It has a lip at top where the hood attaches.
