The over-the-range models are all designed for adaptation for the following three types of ventilation: 1. Outside Exhaust (Vertical – Delivered from factory in vertical position). 2. This model will vent thru the top or out the back. The intake is on the bottom. It can be used without the external vent as well.

I only know that the gentleman who installed it for me said that there were two different parts for outdoor or internal ventilation. He completed my installation for internal ventilation and told me to put the other part away. I don't know if that answers your question, but that's all I know about the vent.
