A:AnswerThis is usually controlled by local building codes. For me the requirement was the microwave has to be a minimum of 18” above a stovetop or range.
A:AnswerHi there - thanks for reaching out! This over-the-range microwave has two incandescent surface lights on the bottom (known as the the cooktop light/nite light). You'll find more information about these on page 23 of the owner's manual: https://files.bbystatic.com/KsvkoHYUAxz6jdhCHP5SqA%3D%3D/AC290A7E-9E2A-454B-811A-7E2199371C09.pdf. We hope this answer suits you! Please let us know if you have any other questions moving forward - we're always happy to help out. Take care, Kelsey@GEA
A:AnswerHi there - We're happy to offer some insight into this. The automatic fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on if it senses too much heat. Since it's designed to protect the microwave's components to remain at acceptable operating temperature, it cannot be manually turned off. Discover more information about this feature by checking out an article entitled, "Over-the-Range Microwave - Automatic Fan Feature" on our website. Reach out if you have any questions or concerns in the future - we're glad to assist. All the best, Kelsey@GEA
A:AnswerHello there - Thanks for asking! The vent fan automatically turns on to protect the microwave if it senses too much heat rising from the cooktop below and cannot be manually turned off during this time. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause - it's a feature designed to make sure that the microwave's components remain at an acceptable operating temperature. A:AnswerHello there - We really appreciate you reaching out about this and we're happy to offer some insight. A Charcoal Filter Accessory Kit is required for the non-vented exhaust, but not if the microwave is going to be exhausted externally. Detailed information about an Outside Top Exhaust (Vertical Duct) starts on page 16 of the installation instructions and information for an Outside Back Exhaust (Horizontal Duct) begins on page 20 of the same installation instructions (linked on our website). We hope this helps! Connect with us if you have any further questions - we're always glad to assist. Be well, Kelsey@GEA
A:AnswerHello there - Great question! Our current stainless steel over-the-range microwaves have black sides and we believe that they complement our stainless steel ranges nicely. Thanks so much for checking. -Mikayla@GEA

Thanks so much for being a valuable customer of GE! We're happy to help you find a replacement model. All our over-the-range microwaves are designed to fit into a 30" cabinet opening. This makes choosing a replacement a breeze. Please note however, that you will need to use the mounting kit that comes with the model. This is because the kit is made specifically for that model. One model we would encourage you to check out is model JNM3184RPSS. Let us know what you think. Stay safe. Mike@GEA
A:AnswerHello- We appreciate your interest in our Over the Range microwave. This is a great model, it comes with a charcoal filter. You can purchase another filter if desired. Note: A fuse can be purchased if desired, however it isn't something that is considered consumer replaceable and would require a technician to install. If you have any additional questions in the future, please let us know. We are here to help! Joyce@GEA

A:AnswerHello, there. It's great to hear that you are in the market for another GE appliance. How exciting! You can check out models: JNM7196DKWW,PVM9179DKWW, JVM7195DKWW , they have similar dimensions as model PVM1870DM1WW. All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement to your model PVM1870DM1WW should the above suggestions not be suitable for you. Please remember that when replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. We appreciate your business and happy shopping!- Kianna@GEA
A:AnswerHi, thanks for reaching out for assistance. We're glad to hear that you are interested in a new microwave within the GEA brand. You could consider similar models such as JVM6172DKBB, JVM6175DKBB, or JVM3162DJBB. We hope this information meets your needs. Take care!- Kianna@GEA
A:AnswerHello- We appreciate you checking with us. All current OTR (over-the-range microwaves), including convection, Advantium ovens, vent hoods, and telescopic downdraft vents can be installed over gas ranges and cooktops* with combined surface burner BTU rating of approximately 65,000 BTUs or less. As long as the 66" minimum clearance from the floor to the top of the microwave is followed there will be no performance or warranty problem. ~For Pro Ranges and Rangetops, we recommend checking the installation instructions for the appliance. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are always happy to help! Joyce@GEA
A:Answerthe newer unit fits into the space the older unit had used. BUT, the door shape of the newer unit will hit the cabinet on the left side of the unit. Your installation needs to be moved to the right to clear the cabinet when the micro door is opened. Not noticeable unless you are a nit picker.....you may have to move the hanging bracket...if you signup for Best Buy TotalTech they deliver and install the unit for free....
