When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Also, all GE 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. - Answer Hi - We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Model JVM3160RFSS is a comparable model. All GE 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions needed to make installation a simple process. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. QuestionCan this microwave be built in? My contractor is building a cabinet to hold a wall oven and a microwave - each about 30" wide. My other appliances are bisque, but I cannot find a bisque counter top microwave. He can construct the opening as needed.

- Answer Hi Penny - Thanks for considering GE! Over-the-range microwaves cannot be installed in a cabinet or cut-out space where the bottom is covered. Also, these models cannot be used on a counter or shelf. The underside is not flat and would not provide a stable surface. Additionally, there can be a heat issue, especially if the exhaust vent fan or surface lights under the unit were accidentally turned on. It can be installed under a cabinet, even if there is not a range or cooktop underneath; however, the height clearances must still be met. Over- the-range models must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. - Answer Hi Tony - Thanks for considering GE Model JVM3160RFSS! Over- the- range models must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. This allows about 14" from the cooktop to bottom of microwave. If the tissue is held up to the microwave, it is venting properly. If it is not pulled up, try checking that the motor was turned in the proper direction. - Answer I purchased a 2023 JVM3160DFBB (version JVM3160DF9BB) to replace a 2014 JVM3160DFBB (JVM3160DF2BB). The bracket is different (only one horizontal bracket as opposed to a 3-sided bracket with the earlier version). And the newer version only uses two mounting bolts at the top instead of three. A new hole will need to be drilled for one of the upper mounting bolts. The new bracket has two bottom tabs instead of 4, but the old bracket appears reusable after bending down the two interior tabs.
