Hi Me- The vent fan does not automatically come on every time you operate microwave. All over-the-range microwaves have an automatic fan as a safety feature. This fan automatically turns on if the unit is overheating. This is in addition to the fan switch that manually controls the exhaust fan. The built-in thermostat causes the exhaust fan to turn on automatically if the temperature around the control panel rises to approximately 150 degrees F. This feature helps protect the electronic components and also helps the cooking area get rid of excess heat. The thermostat resets itself and the fan shuts off when the surface area cools to approximately 150 degrees F or less. View Video: https://youtu.be/6LoK1geGXbQ - Thanks for viewing GE. Keep in touch!
