I am trying to help a friend replace a "well-used" and no longer working GE microwave. The store (purposely unnamed) salesman was very helpful and we found a suitable GE replacement for the old one. We were advised that the installer would require a minimum 30 inch clearance above the stove surface. It looks like there is exactly 29.75 inch clearance. The old unit was installed by a handyman and friend, since deceased, so my friend will need to use/hire someone to install the new unit. Please know, I measured multiple times and continue to get the same answer... need another 0.25" or 1/4". Is this really a problem? Thanks, Ed
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Robert707- We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Comparable models are GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM6175DKBB and GE® 1.9 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM7195DKBB (easy-clean, dark gray enamel interior with steam clean). All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When I called into GE, I was told the replacement for that microwave was the JVM3160DFBB. It fits on the rear bracket fine but the holes on top are in very different locations. I had to remeasure the holes and drill new ones in the bottom of my cabinet. The holes in the top of the microwave didn't even match the template.
